NEUROLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY

Neurological Physiotherapy

Neurological physiotherapy involves the treatment of people with movement and function disorders that have originated from problems within the body’s nervous and neuromuscular system. These conditions often manifest themselves as muscle weakness, poor balance and co-ordination, uncontrolled muscle spasm and tremors, loss of function and decreased sensation.

Studies show brain function is greatly enhanced by early and intensive repetitive intervention following traumatic injury. We work on the principle of “intensity matters”. Therefore, we offer an eclectic and creative approach to rehabilitation that uses technology, but also relies on clinical handling skills and expertise of physiotherapists who are specialist in Bobath or neuro development technique and use hands on treatment with technology to deliver lasting results.

Working with you, we provide treatment tailored to your individual need. Talk to physiotherapists as to how we can help accelerate your recovery.

We commonly help people improve:

  • Mobility in walking, climbing stairs and physical transfers
  • Hand and arm movement such as grip strength, dexterity, eating and drinking
  • Balance and co-ordination to prevent falls
  • Stiffness and tightness in muscles
  • Pain control

Neurological physiotherapists may use a variety of tools to support your rehabilitation this may include:

  • Use of technology such as lite gait, nu step, thera bike, SAEBO, FES, grip able
  • Hands on treatment techniques such as Bobath, neuro development technique, task specific training, PNF
  • Yoga and Pilates in neurology
  • Hydrotherapy
  • Complimentary therapy (neurological massage, sports massage)
  • Kinesio-taping
  • Spasticity management (Botox, splinting, stretching program, serial casting, gaiters, lycra garment, bespoke orthotics, hip and spine surveillance)
